Proper Handling of Device Programmer

Working environment to use device programmer is very important to fully utilize the performance. Poor environment can cause programming problem. Please read and follow our instructions as follows.

For safe use of device programmer

  1. When you run Minato device programmer, please make sure some operator who read and understood the operation manual use the device programmer.
    Wrong operation could cause the damage on device programmer and/or IC.
  2. To avoid damage by electrostatic, please discharge electrostatic before the operation of device programmer.
    Please understand that electrostatic can cause the damage on device programmer and/or IC.。
  3. Please clean the air filer and the surface of the casing of device programmer and socket adaptor.
    Dusty programmer, socket adatpor can cause damage. It can even cause a fire. Please clen them periodically.
  4. Please do not leave IC on socket adaptor where Empty Socket(Red LED) is indicated and execute program.
    It can cause overheating of IC on socket adaptor causing damge on IC and/or device programmer.
  5. Please reconfirm PASS / FAIL by check sum as well.
    If you do not do so, NG device can be mixed as passed device.
  6. Caution on accessories.
    Power cable is targeted only for the device programmer.Please do not use it for other products.
  7. Optional accessories (socket adaptors)
    Please use only Minato Branded socket adaptors and any other accessories recommended by Minato. Please do not use any other items.

Daily Check Points.

Working enviroment to use device programmer is very import to fully utilize the performance. Poor enviroment can cause programming problem. Please read and follow our instructions as follows.

  1. Power supply must be stable.
    Please use grounding wire.
  2. Is there any eqipment which emits noise on the same power line ?
    If high level of noise is detected, please use a noise filter.
  3. Please avoid dusts, gas, direct head air, direct sun shine.
  4. Please do not cover up cooling duct of the dvice programmer.
  5. Please make sure that no forign material is stuck in IC socket and/or TEXTOOL socket.
  6. Please make sure that the programmer becomes stand-by after turning on the power and self-test is completed sucessfully.
    If selftest can not be completed sucessfully, please turn off the power and check the following.

    Please do not set adaptors and IC on the device programmer when the power is turned on.

    If the error still occurs after rebooting of the device programmer, pleae do not turn off the power and check the status of LED, error message and any other message on the display.

Handling of Socket Adaptor

It is not a part of warranty since socket adaptor is consumable item. Generally speaking, mechanical life of IC socket is approximately 10,000 times of open/close. Therefore, the mechanical life of socket usually ends

After handling 5,000 pieces of IC (open/close). The actual life of socket varies by the working environments. If the contact error is frequently observed, we recommend changing the socket adaptor.

  1. The life of IC socket is determined by mechanical cause and the level of contact resistance.
    • The major mechanical cause to damage the socket is bent or damaged pins, decrease of spring pressure, and damage of contact guide.
    • The contact resistance depends on the pressure of the spring and the condition of the contact surface. The contamination of the contact is increased as oxidized tin is transferred from IC to the contact. Contact failure is increased as the number of use (transfer) is increased.
  2. Please do not use contact cleaner. Contact cleaner may cause to accumulate dusts on the contact.
  3. When setting a IC onto a socket adaptor, gently and horizontally drop it onto the socket adaptor. Pushing IC onto the socket or dropping it in angle can cause the damage on IC and/or the socket adaptor.
  4. Please do not cover up the cooling duct of the device programmer.
  5. Please make sure that no forign material is stuck in IC socket and/or TEXTOOL socket.
  6. Please make sure that the programmer becomes stand-by after turning on the power and self-test is completed sucessfully.
    If selftest can not be completed sucessfully, please turn off the power and check the following.

    Please do not set adaptors and IC on the device programmer when the power is turned on.

Programming Using Socket Adaptor

Lead free IC use harder leads and balls. Therefore, it is harder to make a contact breakng through the oxidized tin overing up balls and leads. Please be aware of this situation.

  1. Lead Free
    Leaded IC had softer balls or leads. It was easier for contact to break though the oxidized tin since the surface of ball or leas is easier to be dent with lower pressure.

    According to the report of IC supplier, the life of socket to be used on Pb free IC can be 10 times shorter than that of leaded IC.

  2. Contact Failure
    Gold coated contact of IC socket may accumulate oxidized tin which is transferred from the leads (balls) of IC. As the number of socket useage is increased, oxidized tin is accumulated causing contact failure. Then contact faiure cause programing error.

  3. IC Socket
    Minato use socket recommended by IC supplier. Recently the contact pressure tends to be lower to avoid dents on balls (leads).

    (*)If contact pressure is too low, oxidized tin covering up balls (leads) can not be broken thorugh causing contact failure. Then it cause frequent programming error.

  4. Remedy : Cleaning of IC Socket
    If you start to observe contact failure and lowered yeild rate, please purchase new socket adaptors or clean the socket.

    For cleaning, please contact to our authorized distirbutor or to your sales rep from Minato Holdings Inc.

Calibration

Daily check and annual calibration (once or twice a year) is recommended on device programmer since it is a production or development equipment.

Spare Parts Supply Schedule

We maintain maintenance spare parts untill five years after the discontinuance of the device programmer.

After the five years of the discontinuance, we may not keep the socket of sapre parts of the particular model so that we might not be able to offer the mainenance support.

However, most of minor repair which is major part of our maintenance can be still offerred after five years of the discontinuance of the device programmer. Please contact to Minato for detail.
